DOES THIS PRIVACY POLICY APPLY TO YOU?
This Privacy Policy only applies to you if you are a we.yan user, meaning that you have registered by linking a mobile number.
WHAT INFORMATION DO YOU NEED TO PROVIDE WE.YAN?
When you register for a we.yan account, we will need your mobile number and an alias. You can further refine and populate your profile with additional information. If you use certain functions available within we.yan we will process your information to provide these functions.
HOW DO WE USE YOUR INFORMATION?
We use your information to provide we.yan to you, allow you to communicate with other users, allow you to use the features available on we.yan, and to improve and support your we.yan experience. If you are a parent or guardian who has granted permission for your child to use we.yan then we retain the contact information you have provided to ensure we can validate any requests or queries you may have in relation to your child's we.yan account.
WHERE DO WE PROCESS YOUR DATA?
Our servers are located in secure data centers. We also have support, engineering and other teams that support the provision of we.yan to you, located around the world, who will have access to your information. Rigorous internal control measures are in place to strictly limit access to your data by designated personnel.
HOW LONG DO WE KEEP HOLD OF YOUR DATA?
How long we retain information for depends on the type of information – for example, log-in data is retained for up to 90 days from the date the data is collected. We do not retain your information for longer than the time period prescribed by law.
HOW CAN YOU EXERCISE YOUR RIGHTS OVER YOUR DATA?
Depending on where you live, you may have special rights over your data and how we can use it. These include how you can access the data, erase the data, restrict how your data can be used, object to our use, and get a copy of your information.

1. INTRODUCTION
Welcome to we.yan!
When you use the we.yan mobile app, desktop app, or the website www.we.yan.com (together, "we.yan"), certain of your Personal Information (defined below) will be collected and processed by us.
Our Privacy Policy helps explain our data practices, including the information we process to provide our Services and sets out your choices and rights in relation to that Personal Information.
Please note that this Privacy Policy only applies to we.yan. If you use any other products or services, please refer to the privacy policy for that particular product or service.
If you do not agree to the processing of your personal information in the way this Privacy Policy describes, please do not provide your information when requested and stop using we.yan. By using we.yan you are acknowledging how we process your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy.
2. SCOPE AND APPLICATION
This Privacy Policy only applies to you if you are a we.yan user.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to Personal Information collected by third party services that you may access through the we.yan platform. Please refer to the privacy policy of the relevant third-party service.
If you are using we.yan on behalf of a company, partnership, association, government or other organisation (your "Organisation"), you agree to notify such persons in your Organisation whose Personal Information (defined below) we collect or you provide to us and you agree to obtain such persons' consent to the processing of their Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy as required by applicable laws and regulations.
3. DEFINITIONS
"Location Data"
Information that is derived from your WiFi (approximate city location), IP address (country location), or public posts that contain location information (the location your geo-tag). Location Data will be disclosed when you use location-based features and when you share your location with other we.yan users, and when you access we.yan for security purposes.
"Log Data"
Information that is automatically collected when you use we.yan, including:
- Device and connection-specific information
- Information about your viewing history on we.yan
- Features you use like messaging, calling, status, groups
- General information about your communications
- Metadata related to items you share
"Personal Information"
Any information, or combination of information, that relates to you, that can be used (directly or indirectly) to identify you, which we process in connection with your use of we.yan.
"Shared Information"
Information that you include in your publicly visible we.yan profile, information you make available to other users via we.yan, information about you that is made available by another user via their use of we.yan, and Location Data.
4. HOW IS YOUR INFORMATION USED BY WE.YAN?
This section provides more detail on the types of Personal Information we collect from you, purpose of processing, the legal basis for processing and retention periods for each type of Personal Information.
We do not retain Personal Information for longer than is necessary unless we are required or permitted to do so under applicable laws. If we are required to retain your Personal Information beyond the retention periods set out below, for example to comply with applicable laws, we will store it separately from other types of Personal Information.
Registration and Log-in Data
Your name, profile name, mobile number, region, location, email address used to register.
Retention: Until account deletion or 3 months for log-in data.
Shared Information – Profile Data
Your we.yan ID, name, gender, region, and photo.
Retention: Until you request removal or account deletion.
Chat Data
Content of communications between users. Note: We do not permanently retain chat data on our servers.
Retention: Automatically deleted once read or account deleted.
Location Data
GPS data when you share your location, geo-tagged posts.
Retention: Varies by use case (72 hours for shared location, 3 months for other purposes).
Store Data (for Merchants)
Store name, location, products, orders, reviews.
Retention: Until merchant account deactivation.
5. WHO DO WE SHARE YOUR DATA WITH?
We will not transfer your Personal Information to third parties except as specified below, or where you consent to such transfer.
Only where necessary will we share your information with selected recipients, including:
- Related group companies: We share your Personal Information within our group of companies.
- Service providers: SMS, payment processing, translation, customer service providers who are required to provide equal protection.
- Third party services: When you log in using third party authentication or share content.
- Legally required disclosures: To comply with legal obligations, court orders, or address security/fraud issues.
7. SECURITY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We are committed to maintaining the privacy and integrity of your Personal Information no matter where it is stored or accessed. We protect your Personal Information using information security and access policies that limit unauthorised access to our systems, and technological protection measures such as encryption that ensure confidentiality of your Personal Information during transmission and in storage.
10. AGE RESTRICTIONS AND PARENTAL/GUARDIAN CONTROLS
Children under the age of 13 (or such applicable age of majority under relevant local laws) must not use we.yan for any purpose without first obtaining parental/guardian consent. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from any Child without such consent. Please contact our Data Protection Officer if you believe we have any Personal Information from any Child without such consent.
11. YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data.
- Request correction of incomplete or inaccurate data.
- Request erasure of your personal data where there is no good reason for continuing to process it.
- Object to processing where we are relying on a legitimate interest.
- Request restriction of processing in certain scenarios.
- Request transfer of your personal data to you or a third party.
- Withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on consent.
12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may from time to time revise this Privacy Policy. We will update the revised version here along with the "last updated" date, and notify you via we.yan or other means, as appropriate, before the change becomes effective.
The new policy may be displayed on-screen, and you may be required to read and accept the changes to continue your use of we.yan.
